Italian Grammar Cheat Sheet

Italian verb conjugations, compound tense formation and regular grammar rules

In these early days of my studies I’m constantly referring back to my book and to my dictionary in order to jog my memory on how to conjugate verbs, particularly the auxiliary verbs essere, avere and stare.

Flicking back to the correct pages in my book has been becoming a little bit tedious, so I set about finding a nice cheat sheet that summarizes everything in a succinct manner.  Alas, I didn’t find anything, which I was pretty surprised about.  So I sat down and put one together myself.

Rather than keep it all to myself, with the interwebs at my disposal and my good nature in mind, here it is for anyone else who wants it!

This cheat sheet also includes direct and indirect object pronouns, definite and indefinite articles, and noun/adjective forms.

It’s sized at 1280 x 800 pixels, which is a full screen size of a standard MacBook display.  The PDF should print ok on a standard sheet of A4 too, although some scaling will occur.

It Covers…

  • The present tense (Presente)
  • The conditional tense (Condizionale)
  • The imperfect tense (Imperfetto)
  • The future tense (Futuro)
  • The present subjunctive (Congiuntivo presente)
  • The imperfect subjunctive (Congiuntivo imperfetto)
  • The imperative (Imperativo)
  • The present progressive tense (Presente progressivo)
  • The present perfect tense (Passato prossimo)
  • The past conditional tense (Condizionale passato)
  • The future perfect tense (Futuro anteriore)
  • The present perfect subjunctive (Congiuntivo passato prossimo)
  • The past perfect subjunctive (Congiuntivo trapassato)
  • Direct and indirect object pronouns
  • Possessive adjectives
  • Noun and adjective gender and pluralization

I would be happy to attempt resizing this if there’s enough demand.

If you do spot any mistakes (possible given the short time for which I have been learning), please let me know and I will correct them.

Enjoy!

I can confirm that the PDF prints very nicely on a sheet of A4 paper… just get your PDF software to auto-size the PDF to fit the paper.
